The first of the year is always the busiest time of the year for me starting with the Rolex 24 which leads to Speed Weeks then Bike Week with lots of car shows in between. As luck would have it two really great exotic car shows fell on the same date ( 2 / 6 / 2010 ) this year and I had to choose between the two.
One was the annual " Cars on Fifth " show in Naples FL that was hosted by the Naples Ferrari Club and the other was the annual " Cars for the Cure " show in Lake Mary FL that benefits the American Lung Association. I have yet to attend the Naples show and wanted to go this year when I heard they would have a rare Swedish made Koenigsegg special edition CCXR Trevita. One of only three made worth a cool three million. That's just the kind of car I'm looking to photograph and it would take something very special to pull me away from an opportunity like that. The Cars for the Cure show did have something better and that was the one off, Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Sang Bleu.
Unveiled at the 2009 Concours d' Elegance in Pebble Beach this unique Bugatti Veyron with it's polished aluminum and royal blue painted carbon fibre was immediately bought and would now be on display at the Lake Mary show. I couldn't pass that up so I decided to attend the Cars for the Cure show for the third straight year and I'll have to catch that rare Koenigsegg some other time.
This show had fewer cars than last year but the Sang Bleu more than made up for it. The day started out cold and windy but the sun finally made an appearance later in the day which made it much more enjoyable for all the exotic car enthusiasts that came out to see the great selection. My friends from OAC were out in full force and took home eight trophies for their effort. I think I made the right choice and was thrilled to photograph that one of a kind Bugatti.
